Dedicated to all the witnesses who have experienced something unfathomable before the world was ready to know.

1980 – 1989

Introduction: All across the world the 1980s witnessed an upsurge in the reporting of UFO sightings. It wasn’t that the 1980s saw an actual increase in UFO sightings globally, but international communication systems had markedly improved over the previous decade – information flow between countries was faster and more comprehensive, and the news started to get ‘out there’ regarding the peculiar things being seen. To give a few examples, the decade kicked off with the Rendlesham Forest Incident of 1980, and was followed up by the Munich Triangle of 1984, the Japan Airlines incident over Alaska in 1986, Gulf Breeze in 1987, the Knowles case of 1988, the Belgian Triangles of practically the entire 1980s, and the Russian Robots of 1989, to give an idea of how far that news item travelled. These were all big cases that received an unusual amount of news coverage in those pre-Internet days, and marked quite a departure from the haphazard and unreliable information dissemination of decades past.

In Queensland, UFO sighting reports came in at about the same rate as they had in the 1970s – there were fat years and there were lean years and there were some very interesting years indeed. The score of sightings listed are as follows:
1980 – 16; 1981 – 17; 1982 – 9; 1983 – 16; 1984 – 29; 1985 – 10; 1986 – 5; 1987 – 20; 1988 – 32; 1989 – 34. According to the records, the increase in sightings in 1988 was ascribed to the World Expo ’88 that was taking place in Brisbane from April to October, which on the face of it seems to be a logical conclusion. And while some sightings could indeed be ascribed to the nightly laser light show that took place over the six-month period of the Expo, upon review of the documentation it seems unlikely that the Expo could account for the majority of sightings reported during that year. It also doesn’t explain the same increase in sightings that was observed in 1989.

On the administration front, UFORQ changed its UFO reporting system to follow the ACUFOS model, which was based on the CUFOS model, and which in retrospect may not have been such a good idea. Fortunately UFORQ returned to its own system at some point. Here are some of the more interesting samples of Queensland UFO reports from the 1980s.

Mooloolaba, early January 1980
‘At around 8.00am a friend and I drove to Caloundra. On our way back around 9.00am we were coming through Moloolaba. We had just come into the shopping centre when I looked through the open window and something in the air caught my eye. I don’t know why because I see a lot of planes in the area, but this thing caught my eye because it was just sitting in the sky. It had no wings and was very bright because of reflecting sunlight (see image below). The object was perfectly oblong with rounded ends (in sheet metal we call the shape ‘frog-mouthed’). I didn’t say anything to my friend until I was sure of what I was seeing, but I finally told him as we were going up Alexandra Headlands hill. He tried to see it but couldn’t, and I thought it might have been because we were going down the other side of the hill, but as we got to the bottom of the hill I couldn’t see it either. All I can guess is that it shot off pretty fast.’

Fruitgrove, January 25 1980
At 8.45pm two women in a car observed a ‘brilliant white elliptical’ object in the sky over Bonemill road (image below). The object was observed in the west about 40 degrees above the horizon and was heading north. The women panicked during the observation and drove to the nearest shopping centre on Beenleigh road. When they reached the shopping centre the object could no longer be seen.

Redbank, January 29 1980
At 8.00pm a man and his wife witnessed a pair of lights low in the sky towards Brisbane. When observed through binoculars the lights appeared to be bridged together. The object was visible for 30 minutes travelling east-north-east with a slow upward 45-degree movement. At around 8.30pm the object (left) disappeared.

Moreton Bay, October 31 1980
‘My friend called me to look out at the portholes of a boat (at some lights in the sky). I said they were two mast lights – then I realised they were too large and too bright. I dashed out on deck and saw two large lights hanging in the sky, slightly pulsating but did not seem to be moving. I looked through the binoculars and the lights now seemed to be moving at terrific speed and leaving light trails in their wake To the naked eye they looked to be hanging in the sky, but through the binoculars they were moving at great speeds, sometimes up and down and sometimes around and around. The objects left at daybreak as the sun came up. We had a 3-4 hour electrical breakdown in the area that morning.’

Broadbeach, 22 December, 1980
After reading about the recent sightings on the Gold Coast area in the Gold Coast Sun newspaper, I am drawn to share mine and my husband’s experience so many years ago, which happened over Broadbeach. While completely unrelated to these recent sightings, and 22 years ago, it still seems like yesterday and gives us chills when describing it to others.

We were looking out the window of the Broadbeach house and noticed what looked like a falling star coming down east over the direction of the ocean. This ball of light did not die out like a falling star would — instead the brilliance of the light got stronger and we thought it was a plane turning. However, this thing actually stopped in mid-air. Literally stopped. A second or two later the ball got very bright and a second object came out of the original shape.

These objects started moving almost like they were dancing in mid-air, going up down and around each other. Within the next few seconds they starting doing an aerial display, and then together they took off with phenomenal speed out of sight. We ran outside as fast as we could but they had already vanished. We were so stunned we were trying to debunk what we had just seen.

There were no clouds in the sky - no beams of light coming from the ground. There were no planes around - definitely not ones that could do that speed. That was an insane speed. The colour was a yellowish glow. This occurred around midnight around the 22nd of December. It was my birthday - we had not been partying and were not drinking at all.

Cleveland, late January 1981
‘At approximately 11.50pm we were returning from Capalaba and were approaching the football field when S noticed a light. It was larger than any other star or planet which was in the sky at the time and was travelling at a fairly slow but constant speed not far above the water. We decided to park the car and figure out what it was, if that was possible. It was still travelling at the same speed and went around past Cleveland Point and then headed over towards Wellington Point. When the object was halfway between the two points the red colour started to fade and turn to a yellowish-white. It was around here that a small wispy cloud was in the path of the UFO. The UFO seemed to go straight through it and the small cloud dispersed. It was now gaining height and at times behaved very erratically, moving vertically up and down. It was because of this we decided it was not an ordinary aeroplane and we were starting to become quite concerned. We watched as it disappeared behind Wellington Point. We sat there for a few moments, and it reappeared in front of Wellington Point. It seemed to hover very close to the ground or to actually land at Wellington Point because it was slightly lower than the large floodlight that was on in the car park at the Point. The UFO was back to its bright red colour now. For several minutes it just sat there, perfectly still. It seemed as though it was watching us and we were watching it. I was getting quite frightened so I suggested we go home.

Just as S turned on the ignition, the UFO decided it was coming too. By the time we had the car turned around it was practically on top of us, quite high up. We had to turn right to the road, and it was here that the UFO changed direction also, and we could see instead of one red light it had two smaller lights, one behind the other and nothing but blackness was visible between the lights. It seemed to follow us along every curve in the road. Just two blocks up from my street the object seemed to disappear again. S dropped me off and I was standing in the lounge room contemplating whether or not to wake my family. I was quite terrified at this time. I decided to go to my room when an extremely loud noise came from above the roof towards the back of the house. It was like a vast amount of steam escaping from a boiler except very loud. I could feel the vibrations while I was standing there. It went over the house from the back to the front. All the dogs in the neighbourhood woke up and were barking. ‘I didn’t get much sleep and next day my mother said she had been woken and noticed lights out the back but thought it was the neighbours. One of the neighbours was woken by the dogs barking and went to investigate. He heard the same hissing noise but did not see what had made it.’

Margate, June 12 1981
A man observed a UFO from the balcony of his house around 5.50pm. He called his neighbour out to watch as it headed south-east, where it disappeared. It was described as a ‘giant easter egg’, white in colour with a ‘chimney stack’ on top that
emitted blue-green sparks. Its movement was described as ‘undulating.’

1982 Queensland A woman, in her late forties, recounts that during sleep she found herself in a spaceship. The entities present, both male and female, were all human looking. There were also a few other human being abductees, present also. She would not let the entities examine her as she was pregnant. The beings were apparently disturbed at having made a mistake saying they did not touch pregnant women. One being showed her how the baby would look when born, which the woman says was accurate. This was followed by a tour around the ship. Her next memory is of being back on Earth in the countryside. Suddenly she found herself in her bed. (Source: UFORA90047. Bill Chalker)

Waterford, December 14 1982
At 2.45am, P was fixing a drink. As he stood at the kitchen sink he noticed a concentration of light in the sky and was immediately overcome by a blinding headache. As he watched the object, which was initially stationary, it suddenly traversed to the right of the sky whilst remaining at the same elevation. After stopping it then appeared to shrink to a point and disappear. At the moment it disappeared, so did P’s headache.

Loganholme, February 1, 1983
Whilst driving home one night at 11.40pm, the witness was climbing a rise on the Pacific highway when she observed a green ‘blob’ in the sky. It had no distinct outline and appeared to perform a ‘jellyfish’ motion across the sky. After covering some distance towards the east, the object emitted some sparks from its leading edge and vanished.

Kindon, July 13 1983
‘While driving from Kindon towards Milmerran I saw two red lights travelling from the north-east at great speed. At first I thought they were aircraft, but as they got closer they seemed to slow down to about 20 miles per hour. The lights seemed to turn slightly and follow the road in a southerly direction. I was travelling about 30 miles an hour on the road when the lights seemed to turn around about a mile behind me and followed us for about 8-10 kilometres. The lights passed us and crossed across in front of us and seemed to pick up speed so quickly I felt it must be an aircraft. I knocked my truck out of gear and put my head out the window, but there was no noise at all and no other lights than the two red ones. They disappeared so quickly that at the speed they went I thought they would have to travel through the sound barrier, but there was no sound.’

Canungra, July 31 1983
A woman, her brother, and her three daughters were driving home when the daughters noticed a bright star. The ‘star’ gradually grew larger until the group could see it consisted of two white lights close together with a red light on either side. They stopped the car and got out to look, but thinking it was probably only a plane they resumed driving. The object came closer and looked even more curious so they stopped the car again. The white lights increased in brilliance and then dimmed. As the object flew over them, they saw that the bottom of the object was square with a series of red and green lights along the edges. None of the lights were flashing, and a quiet humming noise could be heard from the object. The surface of the object was dark and no wings were visible.

Camp Hill, August 26 1983
At 4.30am Mr W was in his back garden when he saw an unusual triangular object in the southwest sky. Mr W reckoned it was travelling slower and much lower than normal air traffic. Mr W kept the object in view, hoping to see it land, but it disappeared from view behind the neighbouring houses.

Near Ellangowan State Forest, New South Wales. Circa 1984. 5pm (gained time)

A man was driving a loaded truck from KR Darling Downs in Brisbane and planning to unload at Casino in NSW, then Grafton NSW. He was driving on the road from Casino to Grafton and running late so he wasn’t in a good mood. 15 to 20 minutes into his journey suddenly everything “lit up as bright as day”. He leaned forward and looked up to see a green, fuzzy edged, oval object the size of a house pacing his vehicle 100 metres away and 50 metres high.

He felt a sense of wonder and surprise which lasted about 30 seconds as the light kept pacing him. He thought he had little reaction to what he saw, but then he began to “feel a bit shocked”, then more shock set in as he realized he was now arriving at the outskirts of Grafton. He then pulled into the service station that was starting to close up. The clock said 11.50pm but he expected to arrive at 12.50am. He seemed to have gained one hour of time which he couldn’t explain.

Flinders Highway near Woodstock, Queensland. 1984

My friend Heinrich and I were backpackers from Austria on trip in Australia. We had bought an old Holden HR wagon, and we used to camp in the bush away from cities, rather than staying in any kind of paid accommodation, as this was always the plan. At the time, we had been staying in the greater Townsville area, exploring the sea and countryside, fishing, shooting and campfires. We very much enjoyed these freedoms back then.

As a bit of a background, Heinrich was a tech and science guy, trained in electronics and also a crafty mechanic. Myself, I was a student, and I had spent time in the army, as a AAA gunner. I was also trained in military aircraft recognition. But we both shared a passion for the ‘survivalist’ lifestyle, and so setting up camps in the bush was the preferred way to spend our holiday. We also took pride in our lifestyle of ‘leave no trace’.

At the day of the event, we were cruising on an empty Flinders Highway, maybe 30klm from the small town of Woodstock. Heinrich was driving at the time. The sun was somewhat behind us, the sky was clear, it was mid- to late afternoon. We then noticed an extremely bright light up ahead in the sky, maybe 40 degrees above ground and approaching. My first thought was that of a large aircraft and its landing light, but there couldn’t have been a major airport in the area. And all we saw was that super bright light, just like a small sun but white.

What happened the next moment caused Heinrich to hit the brakes hard, stopping the car. The light was suddenly speeding right towards us, descending in a rapid, vertical S-curve style approach. The next phase was a massive deceleration, during which the glow changed from white to a sparkling emerald green, like crackling green electricity, until it came to a full stop. It looked like a burst of massive energies on display. This braking maneuver took no more than maybe 3 seconds. At stand still the light had now disappeared and a shape was revealed which turned into 3 saucer-shaped UFOs, hovering in a perfect triangular formation in midair. Heinrich specifically described it as a morphing shape from one object into three, while I only remember the 3 UFOs being revealed after the surrounding glow had vanished.

So, there we were, looking at 3 textbook flying saucers, about 70m away, at treetop level and right in front of us. There was no doubt at that moment we were the front and center of their attention as they had been clearly aiming directly for us. The size of the individual objects was approximately 12m across and with a height of maybe 4m in the middle. I remember the shiny metallic grey, and very solid and real looking surfaces. These were proper UFOs.

There was no way we could get to our SLR camera, which was somewhere in the car, and we never even thought about it. And back in 1984 there were no dash cams either, or this would certainly have been a most remarkable UFO footage. After what felt like 10 seconds of this standoff, the 3 UFOs took off towards our left. The acceleration was phenomenal. They went into instant supersonic, but in total silence. At max speed they were once again 3 very bright white oval shapes. Even though they remained at very low altitude, we were able to follow them with our eyes for maybe 5 seconds, after which time they simply vanished, like a light was switched off. They never climbed or landed, and when they disappeared, they were still racing at an insane speed right towards a range of hills.

I briefly considered following them into the bush. But when I looked at Heinrich, his face was pale, and in reality, we were both shaken. We decided it best to get some distance between us and this place. We didn’t even take a picture of the exact location, which I now very much regret. We just moved on and made camp maybe an hour later. There was no noticeable missing time, however I have no memory of the following drive to the next camp, or any immediate discussions. We did not report this incident to anyone, and never saw these craft again.

I moved to Australia in 1992 and have lived here in Perth ever since. My friend Heinrich remained in Austria (now retired electronics engineer) where I caught up with him in 2018. This event is still fresh in both our memories.

  • This is an edited image, taken from Google Maps, at the approximate location. I superimposed the UFOs, and arranged them accurately to how we saw them. The formation, the shapes, the shading and sizes are all correct. They departed towards our left, at about 90 degrees to the road.
  • After so many years, the scene in the picture would not be the exact spot of the encounter, but it should be close.

Byron Bay (NSW), January 22 1984
‘I awoke at 3.00am to check on weather conditions. Upon entering the kitchen I looked at the sky through an open window and my attentions were quickly caught by a large glowing white object in the sky. It was bigger than any star and its ability to move up, down and sideways I found most unusual and interesting. I proceeded to wake my wife and we watched the object for 25 minutes. At one stage the object stopped moving, stayed stationary and then grew smaller and smaller, giving the effect of moving away at great speed. It disappeared to the size of a speck in the sky and in the next instant grew larger and larger until it had reached its original size.’

Runcorn, February 15 1984
A woman was driving south along Nursery road at 8.20pm when she noticed a light dropping in the sky directly ahead of her. The witness stopped the car and got out, and watched astonished as the object flew past her position, still fairly high in the sky, and headed towards Mt Gravatt. The witness jumped in her car and drove the remaining distance to her house, where she had three friends waiting. They all came out and observed a red light flashing in the distance. A second object appeared that travelled eastwards a short distance before ascending directly upwards at great speed until out of sight. A third object then appeared and manoeuvred identically. At this time the first object made a return appearance and roughly retraced its original path across the sky. Red and white lights were seen on the edge of the object that flashed in such a way as to give the impression of a single rotating light. At the front of the object was a single, very powerful headlight.

The Grange, February 23 1984
An unusual object was observed through binoculars by three witnesses. It was described as silver and rotating, circular in shape and with a point on top, darting through the sky in a way a ‘plane or helicopter never could.’

Hervey Bay, March 14 1984
At approximately 9.45pm a family observed a slow-moving object moving down the street. Observed through binoculars it was described as stingray shaped. After five minutes of observation the object passed behind a cloud and was not seen again.

Ascot, March 27 1984
At 12.51am a woman was woken by a ‘swooshing’ noise. She went to the window of her bedroom from where she observed a long object with portholes (image below). The object was a very bright white, while the light through the portholes was a ‘kind of orange’ light. The object moved slowly through the sky until it disappeared behind the house. It was estimated to be only a block away.

Booval, January 21 1985
A police sergeant was in his back yard when he heard a jet flying over. He looked up to watch the jet and remained looking at the sky after it had passed and was amazed to see a metallic object travelling from east to west almost overhead. The object was circular and about half-moon size. Just as it passed overhead it stopped and hovered, and an identical object was seen approaching the first one, also from the east. As the second object came to a position slightly behind the first object, they moved off again, both travelling in unison towards the west.

Capalaba, January 31 1985
A woman was returning from work at 8.25pm when she saw a large greyish object carrying a number of coloured lights along its middle, and a red light on its top surface. The object was seen side-on, with what appeared to be a corner closest to the witness. The object appeared stationary at first and at a distance of only several blocks. As the witness drove towards it, it seemed to move away to the southwest until it disappeared behind the roofline of some houses.

Wandoan, Queensland. September, 1985 5pm. The witness and his father went to visit the father’s brother at his station, but found he wasn’t there. They were both keen shooters so decided to head out to see what wildlife they could find. One mile in on a bush track there was a cutting that opened out to a big grassy area where they were shining their powerful spotlight. When they were finished they got comfortable in the back of their V8 HZ utility vehicle that was decked out with a mattress.

At one stage they looked over their shoulder to see a huge bright object which they estimated to be about 300 to 400 feet high. They became scared and began shooting at it. They soon drove back to the station house but were followed by the object. The lights on their vehicle suddenly went out and the next thing the object dropped 200 feet or so. It was very bright and they were getting panicked. The object “stood off” from them a bit, then moved closer. They turned their vehicle around so they could face the object directly to continue watching it.

They looked at the UFO through their rifles night scopes and could see it looked like “an inverted soup bowl, the size of a couple of houses, with the pattern of a diamond shape through it”. It was “the colour of orange flames on an open fire” and the “patterns on it were pulsating slightly”. The object remained stationery above and the father stayed awake continuing to watch the object when his son fell asleep. One and one quarter hours later the object began moving away from them, then moved higher up into the sky, remained stationery for 3 seconds, then shot off into the blackness.

Some days later they went to a local vehicle electrician to have the lights of their vehicle tested but the electrician reported there was no problem with them.

West End, May 25 1986
At 4.30pm a woman was waiting outside her house when she looked up at the sky and saw six small lights in a cluster, with one light bigger and brighter just ahead of the rest. The woman called her daughter outside to see the objects – the bigger object was silver and red, and only one of the smaller objects was also silver and red. The rest of the objects were plain silver. The bigger object was visible for the duration of the sighting, but the smaller objects intermittently disappeared and then reappeared again. The smaller lights appeared like stars, but the larger object had a definite shape – however the woman and her daughter had different perceptions of the shape, the woman stating it was hat-shaped, and the daughter stating it was triangular in shape.

Brighton, July 1986
A man was watching television around 7.30pm when the power went out. He looked out the window and observed a small light moving strangely along the horizon. His neighbour’s power was not out but appeared to be ‘fading.’ He called his wife to look at the light but upon observing it she became scared. The light was now headed in their direction so the man and his wife went outside to see it appear over a nearby paddock. It then moved towards their front gate. The witnesses stayed outside only momentarily as it passed overhead before they ran into the house. The object was spherical, and its movement was described as erratic and extremely fast.

Near Edmonton, Queensland.    20th October, 1986. 11.30pm

A female witness was driving her Toyota ute along the road towards the east. The road winds through sugar fields and is usually quite deserted this time of night. The ute which the witness was driving, began to steer to the right. About another 400 metres along the road, the ute dash lights and headlights faded almost out. The witness then became aware of a buzzing sound and the vehicle lost engine power. It was at this point the witness noticed a bright, oval, blue-green light moving low in the sky ahead to her right. Fearful of the objects presence, she wound up the ute window and persisted in driving on while the UFO also continued moving apparently parallel with the road. This situation continued for approximately 4klms until the ute suddenly “took off” faster with lights on, steering control regained and the buzzing sound stopped. In her attempts to control the vehicle at this point, the witness lost sight of the object. Her husband stated that his wife had arrived home physically and emotionally stressed following the event. Prior to and since the event, the ute involved has functioned without problems.

Wilston, January 7 1987
A large object surrounded by a number of lights in formation was observed around 8.35pm. There were 10 lights around the object, four on the front and six at the back. The object was described as cigar-shaped, and the lights described as much brighter than a plane’s lights.

Texas (QLD), June 1 1987
A woman was alone in her homestead which was situated on the Dumeresq River, while her husband was away in Brisbane. Just past the homestead is a bush road that leads to two other properties located further inland which are about 8 to 10 klms from her house.  Every room in her house has floor to ceiling glass doors so there are unobstructed views of the hills and countryside around them.

The woman switched off 4 Corners (TV show) and was just about to go to bed when she noticed yellow lights flicking up the bush road. The road goes up over a hill and the lights seemed to be coming from on top of the hill. Her first reaction was, “bloody spot-lighters on the road”. She stood at the door for a closer look and realized it wasn’t car lights or spotlights because the lights were flickering too fast. Then as she watched green and red lights seemed to mingle in with the yellow lights and she could see trees silhouetted on the hill as the lights became brighter.

Her next reaction was, “what the hell is going on up there?”, and she raced out to the kitchen to get the binoculars, then stood outside to look at the lights. She no sooner put the binoculars up to her eyes when, from behind the hill emerged an enormous object. She wasn’t sure whether it was round or oval shaped as she was looking at only one half of it, but it was so big and so close she could see each individual light on it.

Around the base were small portholes shining continuously with bright green light, but the larger port holes on top had revolving red lights. Looking closer at the red lights it looked as if there was something bright red turning inside the object and this was creating a moving effect to the red lights. There were 2 or 3 smaller yellow lights above it but they were so bright and twinkling so fast it was difficult for her to see how many. As it slowly rose above the hill the woman could see pale orange and yellow streaks beaming down under it, and this pale orange aura seemed to be around the whole object.

At this stage her “knees turned to jelly and her hands couldn’t stop shaking” and she knew she had to share her sighting with others, so she called another couple she knew in the area. At the time they shared a manual party line with an operator in Roma so it took a while to get through to them, but when she did they raced outside to see the object too.

The woman returned outside too to see the orange and yellow streaks and the orange aura around the object had disappeared, and the object was now moving slowly upwards.  About 20 minutes later the other couple called to say they were still watching the object which from their angle of view was heading south towards the witness property, but from the witness angle it was still heading upwards. She eventually went back to bed and watched it get smaller and smaller for 2 hours until it just looked like another star in the sky.

Next morning she tried to judge the size of the object and estimated it was no smaller than 70 metres in length and possibly 100 metres long. “It was just enormous.” For days after her sighting she and her dog “covered miles on walks looking for signs where the object may have landed or for any damaged trees” but couldn’t see anything out of the ordinary. Her husband had been out on his motor bike looking too, and they tried to mark the spot with a compass reading from where she first saw the object and where the other couple had seen it, but they found nothing in the area.

Hendra, July 10 1988
At 1.45pm a group of golfers observed an object 18 inches long pass over their heads about 20 feet above the ground. It travelled at great speed and was very noisy, like a rocket taking off. The object disappeared in the direction of the Brisbane river, passing through a line of trees without hitting any of them.

Deagon to Caloundra, August 19 1988
Two motorcyclists were travelling north on the Pine Rivers bridge at 3.00am when they were followed by a bright light. After a short distance the light disappeared, but reappeared further up the road, disappearing and reappearing along the highway as they travelled towards Caloundra. Within a few miles of the Caloundra turnoff the light was again observed, but this time rising over a small hill. The motorcyclists accelerated, looking behind them to find the object to be closing in about 150 yards behind them. As they travelled closer to Caloundra the object disappeared. The object was described as having a yellowy centre with a bright white light surrounding it.

Annerley, November 15 1988
A man was outside his restaurant at 11.55pm when he observed six bright pear-shaped objects, glowing white, and moving in the perfect synchronised formation of a triangle. They moved towards the north extremely rapidly, decelerating at one point and then accelerating again until they were lost from view. During the transit the objects stayed in formation but gave the impression of being distinct and separate objects.

Wellington Point, December 31 1988
A luminous disc-shaped object that was green and pulsating on top, and red and not pulsating on the bottom, and with a very bright band of light around its middle, was observed ‘wobbling’ its way erratically across the sky. It dropped behind some trees but remained visible between the leaves.

Chermside, April 9 1989
The witness had gone outside at 6.28pm when a whitish point of light attracted his attention. At first sight it was believed to be a flock of birds, but it was later observed to be a group of five boomerang-shaped objects flying in formation. The objects were completely soundless and were observed for about 8 seconds before they were lost to view.

Waterford, May 3 1989
A man was outside with his dog at 9.20pm when he observed a pulsating aqua-coloured object with red edges in the southwest. The object was the size of a grapefruit at arm’s length, oval in shape, and pulsating.

Cairns, September 15 1989
At 11.55pm a man witnessed a group of small orange lights over the Cairns Airport
mangroves. The lights seemed to increase in number and emitted an orange fuzzy
afterglow as they rose into the sky. They were very visible in the night sky as they
levelled out and began to travel in a northerly direction.

1989 (no date or time given)  Reported 2004. 30 mins South of Rockhampton, Queensland.

A man was driving on the main highway came up to the top of a hill, then looked down the other side of the hill and was  astonished to see a cigar-shaped object in the air, the size of the “biggest plane” at the time and  “two stories high”. It was travelling below tree height and looked very solid and well built. The object had ten windows,  ¾ size of bedroom windows that were “square-ish” at the bottom but came to a point at the top. The front of the object had a windscreen that was all black and wrapped right around the front and a bit to the side. He described the object as very shiny, made of what looked like pre-finished material with no seams, and colour bonded. It had “square landing pads” with feet on them like “little acorns”.

The object was completely silent making “not a whisper” of sound. The lights shining underneath were very bright “like 1000watts” and bright orange. The witness got out of his vehicle to watch the object move silently and slowly over the road. Then another vehicle came along, swerving off to the side of the road, but then kept on driving. This made the witness think that the other driver was shocked to see the object, but then regained control of his vehicle and took off.

In total the witness observed the object for 3 minutes.
