Introduction: The 1990s heralded a watershed of sorts in the UFO field. There were changes to the types of UFO sightings that were reported, as well as changes to the way that UFO Research Queensland recorded those sightings. The Internet got into its stride in the mid-1990s, which meant that the public could now email their reports to UFORQ instead of sending them by post. This new method of reporting, along with UFORQ’s Sightings Hotline, made it convenient for the public to report a UFO, but it meant that the hard-copy Sighting Report Forms that UFORQ had been relying on since 1956 experienced an abrupt decline of usage. The hard copy report forms were still mailed to witnesses in the hopes they would be completed, but very very few of them were returned to the organisation. Apart from UFORQ now missing a large amount of sighting data, this also meant that the organisation no longer received sketches of objects from witnesses – nobody could send a scanned sketch in with their emails in the late 1990s, since scanners were a new and expensive technology that nobody but large businesses and educational institutions could afford. Eventually the decline of sketches transformed to digital photographs – although this took about another decade since digital cameras were also a new technology and prohibitively expensive in the 90s, and the smart phone was still the domain of science fiction.
What this meant for UFORQ was a period of a few years in the mid-90s where UFO sighting reports have literally gone AWOL. While the sightings were still faithfully recorded in the pages of UFO Encounter, the translation from paper-copy to electronic-copy meant a whole new manner of report recording and filing, which has probably still not been adequately resolved for the purposes of posterity.
The 1990s were when abductions, encounters and dreams began to be recorded in UFORQ’s report archives. Similarly, a number of reports started mentioning odd compulsions to look out of a window, or in a certain direction of sky, only for the witness to see a UFO. There was an increase in the numbers of reports of rooms being lit up by bright white lights, and a whole host of anomalies previously unmentioned in relation to UFO sightings. The UFO ‘flotilla’ also increased in number across Queensland, generally of white, red or orange UFOs in either loose or tight formation, and ranging in number from small groups of three to about a hundred. There were also a number of reports of a curious ‘blood red’ spherical object from a variety of locations in Queensland, and occasionally this red sphere would be accompanied by a smaller, white sphere. Blue UFOs increased their activities, and a triangular object reminiscent of the famous Belgian Triangles was also seen from time to time. In terms of sighting numbers, the decade panned out like this:
1990 – 90 sightings recorded; 1991 – 83; 1992 – 197; 1993 – 88; 1994 – 77; 1995 – incomplete; 1996 – incomplete; 1997 – incomplete; 1998 – 130; 1999 – 78.
As mentioned earlier, the 1990s were a watershed… and things were never going to be the same in the UFO field again.
Townsville, 7 May 1990
As we were pulling out of a shopping centre I saw a TAA (aircraft) inbound from the south to Townsville airport. Then I noticed a ball-like object a little higher than the plane. The object left no smoke, and I would not have seen it if the sun wasn’t out. I looked at my watch to see the time – it was 10:40am, but when I looked back at the object it was gone.

Gold Coast, February 1990, 11.00pm
I noticed an unusual movement above Surfer’s Paradise. I saw to my amazement a very large object orange-yellow in colour, passing over a large building in Surfer’s. The object then turned and headed in my direction. As the object came towards me it started to climb. It was then that I realised it was a UFO. I then jumped up and asked my daughter and her friend to come and see this object. By the time we got outside the craft was 3-4 kilometres away and was still climbing as it headed towards us, until it was directly above us and now looked like a huge full moon that was pulsing from orange to a brilliant yellow-white. It was round in shape and had what appeared to be four round areas under the craft that were slightly different in colour. The craft then turned and headed out to sea and was lost to sight. There was no noise from the craft whatsoever.

Toowoomba, 1991
(extracted from an encounter report)… I was trying to have a conversation with the “woman,” but she was ignoring me and not responding to my questions. She appeared very detached and unemotional. I asked if she was human or robo-humanoid, but the woman ignored me. But after I repeated the question a couple of times the woman said she was human, but different to earth humans. They possessed other qualities that caused them to appear unemotional and detached. Their thought processes were different. I questioned the fact that the female was in charge and the males seemed to respect her authority. She told me that females were the ones in authority over men on her planet, and that was how it should be on Earth, as women are naturally better
than men in running things.
After she finished the medical procedures I had a conversation with the male assistant. We walked over to the window. I looked out with him but couldn’t see much as it was still dark outside. I asked him if his planet was as beautiful as Earth. He said yes it was, and appeared to be sad as he thought about it. I asked him a few more questions but he was a bit evasive. He told me he was a crane driver as his Earth disguise. I asked him if his planet was in the same galaxy. He said no, it was further away. I asked him if his planet was similar to Earth. He said yes, it was much the same. There were other people in the room as well, most of them were Earth people. I don’t think we were on a space ship, it seemed to be a building of some kind…
Toowoomba, 1991
A police officer of 30-years standing described the following: When returning to Brisbane at 10pm I arrived at the top of the Toowoomba range. As I started down the range, everything was normal until I got to the first corner. I had a strong feeling I should go very slowly. I didn’t know why but I started looking at the sky and slowed my vehicle almost to a stop. I crept along at less than walking pace at the left side of the road. I looked over to my left and saw a large circular shape which was an absolutely beautiful blood-red colour. The shape was surrounded by a glow which was red close to the shape, and went to a beautiful golden orange. There was a gap between the shape and the halo of colour. For some reason I thought the shape was in the vicinity of Maroochydore, and had a strong feeling that the shape was eight to ten miles in diameter. I also got a feeling that I was being ‘given a treat.’ I knew as I looked at the shape that I was the only person on the face of the Earth who would be able to see it. The size of the object was absolutely astounding.
Oxley, Brisbane. 1991 9.00pm
Travelling south on Ipswich Road we saw a bright light in the sky that disappeared from view after several minutes. I remarked to my friend that it didn’t look like an aircraft, and she agreed. We came to a set of lights at the Oxley Fire Station, and while waiting, the object passed over our car, allowing a first class close-up of the underneath and to take in the size of the object. When the lights changed to green I drove to the side of the rod and jumped out to see the object. There was no noise, no smell and no reaction from other motorists. The object was about 50 feet long and maybe 40 to 100 feet above the ground – accurate lengths were difficult and the scale could not be gauged while in the car. It travelled about the same speed as a jet, however it passed over the car slowly. The object was extremely well-made and no seams or joints were evident. It looked as though it had been injection-moulded in one piece. It looked on the underside like a stingray, with ribs and ridges, and it seemed to have windows at the front, and three very powerful headlights. The lights were super-white, and about the same colour as mercury-vapour lights.

Cairns, Queensland. 1992
In early 1992 I was watching TV. It was 9.50pm, and I was waiting for the 10 o’clock news to start when my little dog wanted to go out. I took her out the front, and looked up at a blaze of stars — they were so bright and clear. I noticed a V-shape coming over my head, so black and solid it blocked out the stars above it. It was moving very slowly and it kept getting bigger, blocking more and more stars. It made no noise what-so-ever as it moved slowly north, and as the rear became visible I could clearly see it was a triangle. It had a white light on the front point, a green on the left, and a red on the right, the opposite to our navigation lights. There were dim white lights higgledy piggledy underneath, which to me looked like windows. It looked huge and was as silent as a balloon drifting slowly across the sky. I watched in awe as it headed towards a low hill that I know to be less than 1000ft high, and I was certain it was going to hit it. I was startled yet glad to see it glide over the top. This suggested to me that it was even higher and larger than I thought.
As it disappeared I stood stunned for a while, then remembered my dog. It took me by surprise to find her way down the street. I took her inside and was amazed to see it was now 10.40pm and I had missed the news. Sitting there I suddenly thought ‘What the hell happened out there?’ So I went back out but saw nothing but the stars. I could not believe it next day when nothing was said in The Cairns Post. I must I have been the only person looking up in Cairns that night.
Between Bundaberg and Airlie Beach 1992. My husband and I were driving when we saw what we thought was a truck with high beam on us for 5 minutes. The whole car was lit up so brightly. Suddenly the lights turned off. There was absolutely no turn off road off the Bruce Highway, so we stopped and turned around thinking the truck had crashed. We went back 10 klms. There was nothing. We stopped at a service station between Rockhampton and Mackay, told the servo guy we thought a truck had an accident or lost his lights. He laughed and said it happens all the time on this stretch of road. He called them Min Min lights or something like that. I remember this whole thing being so weird.
Mungindi, 1992
We were spotlighting at midnight. I noticed a red haze, like a sheet of light beams in the sky. At that time it didn’t interest me. By the time we drove to the other end of the paddock, it was very bright. We could only see one bright star through it. We stopped the car, and within seconds noticed a bright light, just a bit brighter than the nearest star, beside the rectangle-shaped haze. The light seemed to change colours (from memory red, green and silver). We watched this for about 15 minutes – I hardly took my eyes off it. Then a distinct flash came from the object, slower than a camera flash, and aimed at the haze. Within 2 or so minutes the haze faded to nothing. Then the UFO started going around in circles slowly, between 4-7 circles, then went across, down behind the trees, and then back up nearly to its original position, like a triangle. It then slowly moved around for about 2-5 minutes and then directly away from us and out of sight behind the trees.

Gladstone, Queensland, circa 1992
I’ve been thinking about this experience for a while. I still get creeped out by this experience, as it’s often not too far from my mind’s thought. At the time this happened the house we were living in was in a cul-de-sac, which backed onto heavily wooded state forest land, we had neighbours either side of our house, but the neighbours’ homes were not that close to ours, and we had a few rows of trees between our homes. At the back of our home was nothing but miles and miles of state forest. At the rear of our house we had a patio about two metres wide, and beyond the patio was our small unfenced yard. Not far beyond that was a three meter wide deep creek that would only fill up with water if we had a LOT of rain. And it’s on the other side of this deep creek where the state forest began.
One late night around 10.30pm or so I was watching TV in the living room by myself. I’d decided to call it a night so I turned the TV off, then went to check if all the doors were locked before going to bed. At the rear of the house we have a large glass sliding door, that faces the forest. As I was locking this door I noticed what looked to be a green light amongst the trees. I was looking through the glass in the door, the door was closed, and at first I tried to rationalize this by thinking it’s probably just a reflection from the inside of the house against the glass of the door. But when I turned around and tried to find the source of this green light in the house, there was none.
I can’t explain it, but I had a bad feeling when I first noticed this light, it made me feel very uncomfortable and anxious. So I faced the door again and I could still see this green light amongst the trees. The light was stationary. (Well… they say curiosity killed the cat.) I was still scared, by this time very cautious as well, but I let my curiosity get the best of me. So I slid the door open, which immediately led out to the rear patio. I stepped out to the edge of the patio to get a much closer look. I could see that the light was coming not very far from the other side of the creek where the forest began. After few seconds of looking at this light, I realized it wasn’t a light at all, it was a mist, a glowing green mist! And this mist was illuminating the trees and ground around it! As if this didn’t freak me out enough I noticed something moving, down low near the ground and trees amongst the mist.
To my absolute terror I realized it was a humanoid shape. I craned my neck forward to zoom in on this figure (there was no way I was walking any closer) and I realized this humanoid figure had some kind of tight fitting black (or if not black, dark coloured) body suit on, which also covered the head of the figure. The green mist illuminated this figure, and I could see He or She or It, was crouching down looking at the base of a tree. By this time I was going out of my mind with fear and foreboding, but just when I thought things couldn’t get worse, I saw the figure turn its head and look at me! It noticed me looking at it, and it just seemed to be staring at me! That was enough for me that night, I turned around and ran inside the house, locking the door behind me.
I had so much trouble sleeping after that, for months I slept with the light on in my room. I was terrified. I was around 19 years old at the time. I was very fit and looked after myself very well, I was a competitive cyclist and basically lived like a monk. I never did any type of drug, and never had any alcohol of any sort at that age. There were no houses or anyone living in that state forest at the time, but now they’ve bulldozed a few acres of forest behind our old home and now it’s a new housing estate.
Morayfield, 8 May 1992, 5.55pm
I was travelling down the Bruce Highway towards Brisbane. It was dark at that time of night and all the lights passing traffic were seen on the road. I was aware of a bright stationary light above the tree-line out of the corner of my eye and wondered what it could be. Knowing the area was rural with no houses or industry around and only trees for miles I glanced at it when I had the chance to take my eyes off the road. As soon as I saw it I couldn’t believe it – it was just like a dinner plate up in the sky. It was bright white, and what surprised me was that it was so clearly defined – all the lights from the traffic had a haze around then, but this object didn’t. It also surprised me how small it was and how thin it was (sketch below). I was unable to pull over suddenly because of the speed I was travelling, but I also didn’t want to miss the opportunity to look at this object again. I glanced at it again, during which time I noted it to have a slight hump on top in the middle. Then it seemed to ‘stutter’ a few times before moving in an upward arc direction.

Lightning Ridge, 20 September 1992, 4.00pm
I saw a silvery object moving erratically across the sky. I took photographs. The object stopped, then moved, then stopped and went back. After several minutes it went across the sky at a high speed. Several minutes later it returned at a high speed, followed by two RAAF jets, and disappeared from sight. My photos were lost during developing, or so I was told.
Strathpine, summer 1993
I was in the backyard of my home around lunchtime when I looked up and saw two quarter circles at an elevation of about 45 degrees and about 15 degrees east of north. The quarter circles were some distance apart horizontally, and a fuzzy yellow line connected them. I looked at it for about 50 minutes as it moved steadily away in a northerly direction. The quarter circles were grey, and the fuzzy line looked like a yellow
laser (image below).

Maroochydore, 27 February 1993
The witness was flying from Melbourne to Maroochydore at 10.15am when he observed a disc on its side. It was light coloured and dark around the rim. The object hovered for 2-5 minutes and then darted down on a 45-degree angle until it was out of sight at the fastest speed the witness had seen.

Toowong, 23 March 1993
I glanced up at the sky and noticed an interesting elongated spiral shape forming. I said to my friend ‘looks like we are going to see some signwriting in the sky, but where is the plane?’ There was no plane, but we could see a small white round moving object hovering around a cloud which was starting to form a pattern similar to a double helix, and next to it a cloud with a pattern resembling recombinant DNA. The UFO moved across the sky until we lost sight of it.
Tingalpa, 8 June 1993
I was in the backyard at 5.15pm when a light caught my eye in an easterly direction. An immediate thought was that it was a star, but then I realised it was still daylight so I turned to have a second look. At this stage I realised it was moving in a south-westerly direction and all I could see was the light. I’m still not sure if it was a light or if it was the sun reflecting from the object, but it was very bright. As it came closer I could see more detail and it was close enough that as it moved along it appeared to be rocking from side to side. It had no wings or tail and was completely silent (image below).

Gold Coast, August 5 1993
Hello, I heard you on radio 4BC and enjoyed the program. I thought I would share my experience of seeing a strange object at the Gold Coast in 1993. I have only shared this with my friends before. At the time I was living in Meadowbrook Crescent Carrara and I was at home. It was a dark night and suitable for star gazing and I was to give a bit of a talk to a children’s club on Astronomy. I was looking toward the west between 9.00 and 10.00pm, when suddenly a huge ball of fire came up from the earth in the direction of the Hinze Dam area. It was a basketball size and shape with flames at its base. It was as if it had just launched like an Apollo rocket, but as an orange ball. Within about four seconds the flames coming out the bottom stopped and it was a perfect sphere.
This object, when it moved over towards me, was as large as a harvest moon is on the horizon, though this was above my head. It was a bright orange ball that was pulsating like it had a heartbeat. It moved over towards me and appeared to be only a hundred meters away. I noticed that it seemed to be like a see-through glass ball, and the pulsating orange light would expand to its perimeter at each pulse, which was about once a second or so. It seemed to be a fire inside a glass ball, but pulsating. As it floated above me I had the sensation that this object was observing me and it appeared to stop moving.
There was no sound associated with it. I banged on the window for my sleeping wife to come and see this incredible phenomena, but she was too lazy to get up. I pleaded with her and stated that she may never see anything like this again, but to no avail. I climbed back onto the road to continue my observation.
When studying the object more carefully I discovered that it had a fine red line on each side of the sphere that came down about half the diameter of the sphere below it. I watched the pulsating ball slowly float away from me toward the north and it got progressively smaller. The pulsations on some beats would almost extinguish itself, but it would brighten back up as it pulsed. It eventually became a bright orange star in the north as it headed toward Brisbane, and then it disappeared into the distance. I shared my experience with my father the next day. He handed me the ‘Gold Coast Bulletin’ newspaper the day after that, which gave a report of this sighting as witnessed by several people. But the report gave an impression that it was only seen as a bright orange star, not as the larger than full moon size that I witnessed for a period of some five or so minutes before it slowly floated away, lasting another 10 to 15 minutes. I was glad others saw something also. I reasoned with myself that this strange object may have been some sort of energy release from the earth, or on the other hand some sort of spiritualistic manifestation. Being of the Christian persuasion I believe that supernatural things do occur on earth but they originate from earth. There are forces at work that are mostly unseen by the human eye but are sometimes manifested.

Nerang, 22 November 1993, 11.00am
The witness observed a perfectly round metallic object with portholes about half the size of a soccer field.
Queensland, mid-1990s (report received April 2019)
In December of 1993 or 1994, many reports were received from people stretching all the way from St George to past Longreach, right up to Far North Queensland. Reports
consisted of a craft with lights flashing orange, white and green, which moved unbelievably fast and witnesses were phoning into Regional ABC Radio as they tracked it. One witness contacted UFORQ in 2019 to say that this object hovered over their shed, but when they put lights on it to get a better look and take a photo, it took off. The witness was watching the object as he was driving up the street, which was a dirt road at the time, after late night shopping. He drove the rest of the way home without lights so as not disturb the object while he tried to find his camera.
Waterford, mid-1990s
We were living at Jimboomba and my mother was on her way back from Bingo and was travelling through Waterford at about 10.30pm when the whole car was enveloped in a green light. It kept with her for a couple of minutes and then just disappeared. Needless to say she was shaking after it happened. I don’t know why she didn’t tell me, although I was still a child back then, but she told my Dad. She originally thought that it was some kind of plane coming down, then she thought it was some kind of military aircraft. It was only after the light disappeared that she thought it may have been a UFO.
Townsville, Queensland, 1994, 3.00-4.00am (reported 2023)
Witness statement: “In 1994 my dad had picked me up from a night on the town. I don’t drink so I was completely sober. It was very late around 3.00 or 4.00am. We pulled up to a set of red traffic lights. Suddenly the houses around us lost power, then the street lights, then the traffic lights. Lastly our car turned off. This lasted about 30 seconds to a minute then the power came back on in the same order. Our car turned back on with the radio blaring and we headed home. Both of us freaked out. My dad refused to talk about it ever again. There was no note of power issues at all. “I didn’t see or hear anything, but my dad definitely could have. He was a no nonsense guy who’d been in the military and owned an import and export business and was extensively travelled. The first thing I noticed was the house lights going off, then one by one the other lights. Frankly, the car turning off last was what unnerved me. Dad just wouldn’t talk about it. He just wouldn’t answer when you mentioned it. He completely blanked it out. The incident always stayed with me, and lately with so much exposure about UAP etc. it’s been on my mind.”
Everton Park, 24 March 1994
At approximately 7.45pm I glanced into the sky and observed a single bight point of light moving across the sky. I initially assumed it to be a satellite, but upon looking further I noticed other similar lights moving behind the first one. The lights were in no particular order and there were too many to count easily, but I estimated there would have been between 15 and 20 of them, all moving in the same direction and at the same speed.
Wellington Point, 13 May 1994
Around 9.00pm my nephew asked me to look at three pretty red lights above the trees approximately 1 kilometre away. They seemed to play together for 3-4 minutes, then each light descended slowly down behind the trees. I have noticed how peaceful I’ve felt in the last week or more.
Woodford, 24 June 1994
I went out to feed the dog and saw a reflection in the dam. I looked up and above Mt Archer I saw what looked like a blackberry shape of different coloured lights. The lights were red, blue and green, and appeared to be translucent. A white light then came from D’Aguilar Range and was as high as the range itself. His wife, daughter and son-in-law all watched it for half an hour then got tired of looking at it and went inside to have dinner.

Goldsborough Valley, Cairns, October 1994
When I was eighteen years old I was on a high school camping trip where we had to walk a long distance to an old mining site in the Goldsborough Valley area, along Butchers creek. On the way we noticed many mine shafts, so it’s a dangerous area. That night, five of us were lying and sitting down under a blue tarp with a fire about five metres away, when I saw an orange light bouncing through the bush, then it disappeared. Later on I was so surprised to see a human-shaped figure walking in the guinea grass. I said to my friends, ‘Shut up, I see someone!’ The five of us were too afraid to get up and see what it was, so we watched this thing walking around in the grass then disappear. It was late at night, and we could also hear a dingo or dog barking like mad far away.
We all went to bed at the same time, but I checked again to see if that thing was still there. I looked across our campsite and saw something coming out of the grass and standing behind the campfire, looking straight at me with its deep dark eyes and small naked body. It freaked me out so much I covered my head with my sleeping bag while trying to wake up my friends, but I think this thing made them go into a deeper sleep.
With the sleeping bag over my head I could hear it walking on the leaves and twigs behind my head. I was so scared and sweating and my friends wouldn’t wake up. I then saw a bright white light and began to feel very tired. Then I saw a circle with lights and I was trying to figure out what it was. At first I thought it was a wheel. It was coming closer, and I thought ‘Am I in a hospital?’ No, I’m floating on my back up towards a spaceship and I could see the treetops lit up and it was very windy. I could only move my neck and head while the rest of me was paralysed.

As I was coming closer to the UFO the door swirled open and I could hear a deep hovering noise going around the bottom of the UFO. Inside there were all these rectangles with light blue light glowing out of them from underneath. I floated into the UFO with some aliens [see sketch above], plus some leaves blew inside as well. They put me on a hovering trolley and I went through a door and down a hallway. There was a light blue crystal on the left of me in a cut-out in the wall, it was floating as well as glowing. The alien pressed some buttons on the right and then the door slid up. All the doors had symbols on them. I was then taken into a room with a table in the middle.
The room was a round shape with four doors leading to it. I remember a lot of things that were on the UFO but it’s too much to write down. I saw instruments and lights, hieroglyphics, buttons and the small blue crystal at the end of the hallway. It was cold and they sucked blood from my arm with a long tube, as well as sperm. They checked my body all over and spoke to me through my mind – I think they downloaded my memories. Everything. After a while they became angry because I was watching what was going on, so they put a yellow burning liquid in my eyes and if I tried to open them it would be blurry, plus it would really burn painfully, so I closed my eyes for relief. Also I think I made one angry because it read my mind and I was thinking about kicking its ass because it was so skinny and helpless. The aliens can change their skin colour to whatever colour is near them, but I think they are naturally grey. The spaceship was about the size of a house or a little bigger, and a grey colour with lights.
I was very scared and I would not go back to that area, ever, not for a million dollars. Also because an American man went missing in the same area from a hiking group. My friends don’t remember anything from that night, for them it was like nothing happened. I still remember most of it, but people will think you’re crazy if you mention it. Now I am so scared of the bush and camping because nothing can protect you. I still get chills up my spine, thinking something like that is watching me outside from the grass or the bush. I am lucky they let me go, because I begged them with my mind. I woke up naked near the campfire. Since then I have had more encounters but no abductions. I have seen another two aliens afterwards in my life. You know, when this sort of thing happens to you it’s very hard to understand it.
Bajool, 4 December 1995
The dogs and cat were going mad, barking and growling at the doorway. I went outside and felt very queer, all cold and with goose pimples. There was a strange cloud with moonlike lights in it. It came down at treetop level in the northeast above tree-top level. When it came over the paddock the cattle started bellowing and came up to the house. I watched it pass over the trees and turned and headed back away from the house. The animals continued to bark and bellow for quite a while. The colour was a whitish-grey, and the light from the portholes was the colour of the moon.
Gold Coast, 1996, 5.45am
A woman got into her car at 6.00am to drive to work at the Golden Gate high-rise. Her car wouldn’t start and when she looked up she saw a UFO over Cascade Gardens. Suddenly out of nowhere a man appeared dressed completely in black and said to her “I think your car will start now”. It did, but with that he disappeared into thin air.
Newmarket, 29 January 1996
A neighbour called for us to quickly come outside. She told me to look at the sky and explain what that was. I couldn’t, so I yelled to my husband and asked him to explain, but he said he didn’t know. By this time I was getting a bit nervous. As I looked at the sky I could see eight circled lights that looked really dim while I watched, then brightened up and began rotating in a circular clockwise motion. It was fast, and then all of a sudden it stopped, hovered for a while, and then went fast again in an anticlockwise motion. The sky was clear except for a cloud here and there, and it looked as though it went into the clouds, leaving a mark behind. It made no noise and was unmoving for seconds at a time. The lights had a greenish tinge to them.

Corinda, 12 February 1996
I was waiting for a train at Corinda station when I saw a beautiful ‘thing’ gliding past from right to left. I was spellbound. I didn’t think to attract attention to it. I didn’t think of anything, I just looked. I felt it was something ‘natural’ rather than man-made. It was a brilliant deep aqua and clear yellow in colour, tapering off to white.
Jacob’s Well, 29th of September
At around midnight, a Westpac flight crew returning from Brisbane watched the flight of a UFO at a position south of Jacob’s Well (Gold Coast). The UFO had three bright lights, evenly spaced along the side of it. The pilot said that ‘it seemed to be flat in appearance. It then tilted like an aircraft banking, then after about one minute disappeared from sight.’
Qld/NSW border, 1996 (just prior to dawn)
I have no particular interest in UFOs or aliens and have never written about this before. Back in 1996 I was riding my motorbike south from Brisbane to Byron Bay and, to escape the heavy traffic, I left before dawn. As I neared the Qld/NSW border a very bright light coming from directly above surrounded me. My first thought was the helicopter police were doing a speed-check and so I decided to keep going at a steady 100kph. However, the bright light would not go away and I was getting so angry with the police and the glare which made vision difficult, so I pulled over. As I had a full-face helmet on I could not look straight up as much as I wanted to while riding. Once I pulled to the side of the highway I glanced up and saw, just for a second, what seemed to be a flying carousel of the type seen at fair grounds, covered with coloured lights making circular patterns. I had only seen it for a second when it accelerated south so quickly I knew it could not be a helicopter or any other human flying vehicle as the acceleration would surely have crushed any occupant/s.
I stood in shock by the side of the road for maybe 15-20 seconds when a car pulled up behind me with one male occupant who shouted at me excitedly, “Did you see that!
Did you see that!” I said I saw something and was unsure what, but his description seemed to match my own. He seemed convinced it was an alien craft but I was (and am) reluctant to say with certainty what it was as I really don’t know. It was only
after we parted company that I realised that I should have exchanged details with this man for confirmation but I think we were both too much in shock to think straight.
Although it is now 22 years later I can still see that image of this floating carousel of coloured lights but have preferred to regard it as an unknown object rather than claim to know what I do not.
Brisbane, 1 October 1997
Two Northern Rivers helicopter aircrews separately encountered UFOs while returning from Lismore to Brisbane. The pilots were flying at 7000 feet in a clear night sky when
their aircraft was suddenly fully lit up inside. The sudden burst of white light was at first thought to be lightning, but the sky was clear and the light came from above and to the rear of the aircraft. Fearing a collision with another aircraft the pilot immediately radioed Brisbane Air Services – it was confirmed that there was ‘nothing within miles of you.’ The same night at 10.45pm, a man and his daughter were in the Ballina area when they saw a ‘very large, round metallic bright blue object shoot quickly across the night sky.’
Brent’s Park, 16 December 1997
A man observed a boomerang-shaped object to the west that seemed to be moving slowly and emitted a quiet hum. It had white lights which went out at one point. The object moved in an arc and was seen for about 1 minute.
Camoweal, 26 May 1998
A man driving from Camoweal to Mount Isa was followed for four hours (from 12.15am until daybreak) by unusual lights in the sky. The lights were part of an object of defined shape and seemed to be enveloped in a misty haze. It was visible for the entire duration, and stayed to the right of the man’s vehicle, even when he negotiated bends, and at times approached very close. The object was 50-100 metres long and had a large light on its bottom. The witness was not inclined to stop his car until he pulled into a service station outside Mt Isa. At the service station the attendant told him ‘it happens all the time.’
Brisbane, Queensland 10 June 1998. 9.15pm Mrs G, aged 44, was in bed about to fall asleep when she noted a flashing light down the corridor where none should have been. She got out of bed, went to investigate and found a “very tall” being present, dressed in a tan coloured jacket. Suddenly, she found herself standing in a different position. Again, suddenly, she found herself sitting on the bed. The clock said 2.45am. Source: UFOICQ
Bundaberg, 10 August 1998
A man observed three dark objects north of Bundaberg. He first saw the objects at an elevation of 33 degrees, heading west at an angle of 45 degrees. The objects maintained a triangular formation and were visible for about 15 seconds. About 10
seconds later the witness heard a ‘pop.’ The witness had served in the Air Force.
Robertson, 12 August 1998
A security officer saw an oblong-shaped object in a clear sky to the southwest. It was mother-of-pearl in colour and crossed the horizon in less than a minute without making any noise. Immediately after this a jet, then an army helicopter, and then another plane followed the object.
Roma, September 19, 1998
It was late at night, around 1.00am, and I was staying at a friend’s house overnight. Myself and two others were sitting outside stargazing when we saw what we thought was a satellite passing overhead. It was a bright white light that was only slightly brighter than the stars around us. However, its movements soon became erratic — it suddenly zoomed at a right-angle to its original heading and appeared to come closer (it got brighter and slightly larger). It then changed direction again and began zipping back and forth in the sky, changing direction at random and moving way too fast to be a plane and executing turns which no plane could possibly do — especially given how far away the object looked. It never got brighter or larger then Venus looks in the sky, and most of the time it was only a little brighter then the other stars around it. However it did appear to come closer before zipping further away again. It covered a huge amount of space in the sky and continued its movements for at least 20 minutes before it suddenly executed another impressive turn and shot across the sky, vanishing into the distance. My friends and I were rather spooked by it and at the time were too scared to call for others while it was above us. Even though it was incredibly far away, there was something quite frightening about it.
Woodridge, 18 January 1999
Two witnesses observed an octagonal object low in the northern sky by eye and with a telescope. It seemed to be far away and flashed colours. After 45 minutes it moved away rapidly to the north and was lost to sight in 1-2 minutes.
Logan, 27 February 1999
A family were leaving their acreage property when they observed a huge football-shaped object the size of a sports oval, with three rows of windows, passing at treetop level to the south of them. The object turned as it passed, first clockwise, and then anticlockwise, as though it was sighting the family while passing. It then turned to face its direction of motion. Meanwhile, the mother, who was in the driver’s seat, saw through the front window what looked like a multi-storey apartment block, with the windows lit up, in the paddock across the road. The family became frightened and left the scene quickly. As they turned into the road they caught a glimpse of the object about a kilometre away. A relative of the family was with a group of people at Jimboomba, about 20 kilometres away, who reported seeing an unusual light.
Holloway’s Beach, 4 March 1999
A woman looking out to sea saw what looked like a ‘tower of lights’ in the sky, descending to the horizon and ascending again. The light moved horizontally and vertically in a clear sky. On one occasion she thought she saw lightning behind the
object. She observed the object for 10 minutes.
Algester 7 April 1999
A woman driving along Algester road saw a black triangular shape with a white light at each tip. There was no sound as the object passed from east to west at about half the speed of a small plane, and it was observed for 10 minutes.
