INTRO: As you read through these reports you will no doubt be struck by the similarity between sightings from the past and current day reports. In fact, if you didn’t know these reports were from days long gone, you could easily believe they were sightings from more recent times. It seems the more things change the more they stay the same, even in the field of ufology.
1932/33 March/April approx 2pm. Nambour, Qld. The location was about half a mile west of Nambour and the area was on a small creek running through the family farm with a small swampy area just to one side of the creek. There was also a small hill right around the base where the swampy pools lay. The witness was playing with a group of boys and girls in the vicinity of this small hill and at one stage she wandered off some distance from them and approached a tall growth of grass which grew at the foot of the hill. She put both hands up in front of her and parted the grass to look through.
She heard a low humming sound and saw a round object directly in front of her about 4 feet away. It looked the same shape as if two ordinary saucers were placed face to face and then turned on their sides. There was a small circle around the top of the top dome of the object and about three quarters of the way up to the top dome was curved upwards into a smaller dome, but not like a button, more gently curved.
The colour of the object was a silver grey and it was 12 inches in diameter and hovered 3 inches above the surface of the water. There was a slight, almost imperceptible shiver of the waters surface directly below the object causing waves of concentric circles as if it was directing a force in order to stay in the air. The object remained perfectly still over the same spot and as she bent forward to look more closely, the humming rose suddenly in pitch and volume. At the same time a whitish mist began to form between her and the object, but remained close to it. She could still see through it like one can see through a nylon cloth woven finely.
At the same time the mist began to form, the witness began to feel a tight feeling in her head, and as the noise increased she let go of the tall grass and stepped back. She couldn’t see it anymore and felt stunned in the head, but she could still hear it humming behind the tall grass. She didn’t see any hole, vents, flaps, rudders, hatches, light housings, legs, landing gear, markings, letterings etc, just a smooth surface as you would expect of a high speed flying machine.
She didn’t touch it or get closer than 4 feet at any time.
Soon afterwards everyone decided to go up to the house and on the way one girl said suddenly, “What was that?” as something flew up between the trees. Someone answered that it was a magpie. “No it wasn’t”, replied the first girl. The witness didn’t see anything but she knew it was the object flying off.
That night she noticed large white blisters on both of her hands and she felt out of sorts. The blisters were the size of a three-penny piece (five cent piece) and were pure white. Sometime during the night while asleep, most of the blisters burst, and the one or two remaining burst during the next day with a clear fluid like water being released and she felt better after that.
1939 Rosalie January (?) 1.30am While standing on the back landing of a house in Rosalie, the witness described seeing a pulsating yellowish, slightly irridescent orb that was observed for about thirty minutes.
1944 Bass Strait 2.30am The witness was flying a Beaufort Bomber at an altitude of 4500 ft and 235 mph when he observed a ‘dark shadow’ emitting a flame from its rear. The shadowy object flew parallel to his aircraft for 18 minutes before accelerating to three times the speed of his plane, with the flame increasing to 100 to 150 feet as it accelerated away. (The name of this gentleman was Ricky Royal who went on to become one of the founding members of the Queensland Flying Saucer Research Bureau, now called UFO Research Queensland)
1949/1950 Queensland. Early Missing Time Report. As a young child, the woman making this report lived on a farm with her parents. They had 50 head of dairy cattle and one day she was sent out to gather 8 cows that had not come in for milking. She went off on horseback and as she entered one of the paddocks looking for them she saw an object that was floating just above the grass which was 3 feet high. The object made no noise, was silver in colour and approximately 12 to 15 feet in diameter. As she approached it slowly moved up to tree height, turned on it’s side and then vanished. She returned home to find her parents cross at her because the missing cows had returned and their milk was gone. She was accused of ‘running’ the cows. Apparently this happens if you run dairy cows when they need milking, and they questioned her whereabouts since the cows had returned 30 minutes previously. She was at a loss to explain the event and didn’t quite know how to, as she was under ten years old at the time. She had gone back to the site of the hovering UFO later and found a burn mark on the ground where she had seen it hovering.
She also stated that she thought her father had some sort of strange experience too, as one day she saw him run in from one particular paddock that he had been working in looking “as white as a ghost”. He ran straight through the cattle and “almost ran on top of them like a sheep dog”, past her mother and herself and into the house. He never let his cattle go into that paddock again.
Later as a married woman she and her husband lived outside Gatton and one evening at 1am they suddenly heard the insects and birds stop making any noise. Then they saw a bright light come through the top of the house. They didn’t know what it was but her husband was so shaken by the experience that he slept with a gun on the floor beside him that night. The next day they could see that up one side of the house there was a black mark that looked like it had been burnt. At the time they had 2 kittens and they found one of them dead the next morning. The other one retreated to an inaccessible place under the house which they eventually retrieved but it also died a few days later.
