This is our 70th anniversary year and it got us thinking about why it matters. Actually 70 years of UFO research matters now more than ever.
In 1956, studying UFOs meant risking ridicule, professional damage, and social stigma. Witnesses were silenced, researchers were dismissed, and serious questions were pushed to the margins. Yet for seven decades, people kept looking up, listening carefully, and documenting what others refused to acknowledge.
Why does that matter today?
Because history shows that what is ridiculed first is often recognised later. Governments now release UFO/UAP footage. Pilots speak openly. Scientists, defence agencies, and universities are asking the same questions early researchers were asking 70 years ago: What are we seeing? Who is experiencing it? And why does it matter?
UFO research isn’t just about lights in the sky. It’s about:
Preserving witness testimony
Applying investigation over sensationalism
Understanding the psychological, cultural, and transformative impacts of encounters
Protecting curiosity in a world that too often discourages it
Seventy years of research represents continuity, a living archive of sightings, patterns, human experiences, and unanswered questions. Without that history, today’s “disclosure” conversations would have no foundation.
The mystery hasn’t gone away. We’ve just become better prepared to face it.
So here’s to 70 years of asking difficult questions, supporting witnesses, and refusing to look away. Thanks for staying the course with us. 
On 21 January, 2026 (AEST) James Fox held a landmark press conference at the National Press Club in Washington DC, about the Varginha, Brazil UFO case, bringing together first-hand witnesses, medical experts, government officials, and U.S. insiders to present new evidence related to alleged non-human encounters and crash-retrieval programs.
On 10 January 2026, Erich von Däniken, born on 14 April 1935 in Zofingen, Switzerland, passed away. He is mourned by his family, his friends around the world, millions of readers of his books, and the many colleagues who had the privilege of working with him for decades. His Archaeology, Astronautics and SETI Research Association (A.A.S. R.A.) and all those interested in paleo-SETI research received the news with dismay. The bestselling author wrote 49 non-fiction books, which have been translated into over 40 languages with a worldwide circulation of approximately 80 million copies. RIP Erich.

In early March 2025, a group of friends driving through the Adelaide Hills experienced an unusual event. They were driving on a dirt road between their homes when they observed a dark, triangular-shaped object—approximately the size of a tennis court—hovering silently above their vehicle.
“It was triangular and had a large light on each of the points. You’d think a plane or fighter jet, this size and this low would be loud as hell, but we put the car windows down and it was silent. It flew above us for probably all of 15 to 20 seconds, then it was gone. We didn’t see it zoom off or anything, it was just gone. There were four of us in the car and we all saw the same thing. As far as UFO encounters go it was pretty uneventful. It didn’t pick our car up with a tractor beam. It didn’t carve the Coopers logo in a nearby paddock and there were no little green men checking us out. We just saw a thing in the sky we couldn’t explain, flying in a way we’ve never seen before”. This sighting was corroborated by all four passengers, none of whom could offer an explanation for the phenomenon.

MYSTERIOUS DRONE-LIKE OBJECTS SPOTTED IN AUSTRALIAN SKIES, JOINING GLOBAL UFO PHENOMENON

Australia has become the latest country to report a series of bizarre drone-like sightings, with multiple eyewitnesses capturing footage of mysterious lights moving in triangle formations across the southern sky.
Renowned UFO researcher and skywatcher Barry Taylor, a member of UFO Research Queensland, has been tracking the phenomenon since January 2, using a Sionyx Aurora infra-red camera. Taylor’s footage, captured between 10pm and 2:30am, reveals single and triple groups of lights fading in and out rapidly, often illuminating for only 5-10 seconds.
The sightings, observed 15 kilometers south of Brisbane’s western suburbs, have sparked widespread interest and speculation. Taylor notes that the objects’ behavior is distinct from man-made Chinese lanterns, which remain illuminated for 8-10 minutes and are typically launched from a single location.
As the world grapples with an surge in UFO sightings, UFO Research Queensland is urging residents to report any further observations, providing details of location, direction, and time. The organization hopes to gather more evidence and shed light on the mysterious phenomenon.
With 2025 already shaping up to be a significant year for UFO activity, one thing is clear: the truth is out there, and Australians are eager to uncover it.
